{"id":571,"date":"2024-07-30T10:01:04","date_gmt":"2024-07-30T09:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drandrewmacaulay.org\/?page_id=571"},"modified":"2025-01-10T14:01:19","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T14:01:19","slug":"dr-valentine-macaulay","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.drandrewmacaulay.org\/?page_id=571","title":{"rendered":"Dr Valentine Macaulay"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My wife died 2nd July 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oncology.ox.ac.uk\/blog\/celebrating-the-life-of-professor-valentine-val-macaulay-emeritus-associate-professor-of-medical-oncology-at-the-university-of-oxford\">Celebrating the life of Professor Valentine (Val) Macaulay- Emeritus Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Oxford \u2014 Department of Oncology<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center is-style-default\" style=\"grid-template-columns:24% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drandrewmacaulay.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Val-Macaulay-work-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-573 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><em>Dr Valentine Macaulay<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4b2eccd6 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>Valentine would say to us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this borrowed body, I have lived a good life,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>with family, with friends, with meaning, with fun, with few regrets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grieve, but please not for long,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and remember me for the good times that we had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>~<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I would say to Valentine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, we lived a good life,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you were the best friend, the best mother, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the best example we could have,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and we will remember you for the good times that we had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>~<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you request,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>we will do as you say, we will grieve but not for long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will try.
